Ospital ng Samplaoc- summer rotation

I don’t know what to expect for my first hospital duty this summer, but it wasn’t bad after all. Our hospital assignment is just a minute away from my place, but I haven’t been there before. We were assigned in Ospital ng Sampaloc on April 13 to 17 from 2pm to 10pm. I wasn’t much ready, emotionally since I still have this vacation inertia, and I just went home last Easter Sunday. After attending the Holy Mass last Easter Sunday, we headed back to Manila.

Ospital ng Sampaloc stand tall (literally at seven-storey high) in the middle of residential area across Lacson Street in District of Sampaloc, under the city government of Manila. It has also undergone renovation a year ago. Although it is my first time (a portmanteau I’ve heard from the staff, “O” stand for ospital which means Hospital and “Sam” stands for Sampaloc), I think the city government made a good job. Consultation is free in the OPD while members of Philhealth had more privileges like availing a room with a television

On the 4th floor of the building is the OB ward where we were assigned but the student’s lounge is on the 6th floor, the experience of having to use the stairway was like an extended penitence since students were not allowed to use the elevator. While the summer heat during the afternoon did not spare us and was on the extreme, even if there were ceiling fans on each clients room, ironically the last 2 days was windy.

Still, it’s a great experience especially for me, to render my care to the people who I may consider neighbors in Sampaloc.
