Totally cloud computing. I already made an entry about this useful web-based service from the Ghost Inc before. A brochure of G.ho.st® VC we’ve found during the iBlog5 reminded me of this service which I have found 1 or 2 years ago. I am not sure if G.ho.st already had marketing campaigns in Manila- the brochure looks informative, unfortunately we only found 1pc, so my companion during iBlog5 took it since I already know about the service. Ever since, I really loved the idea of having my desktop accessible anywhere, but not using a software to show my PC desktop even if I’m away from home. Remote access and desktop control software are just unsafe from unauthorized access or maybe no one could turn on and connect my PC online, while a PC is vulnerable from disaster.

Here comes G.ho.st (Global Hosted Operating SysTem), a virtual computer easily accessible to any browser with an internet connection, it is simply pronounced as ghost, (a disembodied soul, to appear to the living in bodily likeness- merriam-webster) which haunts Microsoft to death. I’ve just read from an article how Microsoft might have been threatened by these web-based applications already available online, which makes the computer-giant uneasy.

Key Features:

Available-everywhere desktop- Access your desktop, files, apps and settings from any Internet browser. Desktop and apps run without the need for installation or updating. Customize your desktop and choose from 20+ available language.

Sharing & collaboration- you can share your files by providing a URL to a colleague.

Inherently Secure- G.ho.st® uses Amazon Web Services

Office Suite- Read, write and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations using G.ho.st® integrations with Zoho, directly from your G.ho.st® Storage. Edit Google Docs, sheets and presentations stored at Google from within G.ho.st®

G.ho.st® Drive – online storage- 15GB professionally hosted and backed-up disk space. Many file types can be viewed or edited online with a simple double-click. Upload and sync your documents, photos and music easily using the G.ho.st® Upload Download Utility, Sync program or FTP

G.ho.st® Mail- upon logging in to your G.ho.st® VC, you’re G.ho.st® Mail also logs in as userID@G.ho.st. I’ve tried to email my primary email address, but the message went to my spam folder, so I just added my G.ho.st® email address to my contacts.

Organize Web stuff- Manage smart shortcuts called Tagged Things to Web resources – webmarks (URLs), files, photos, videos, music, products. Single sign-on to other services such as Google Docs using My Logins. The G.ho.st® Virtual File System shows you G.ho.st® Drive files, Google Docs files and other Web files all in one place.

G.ho.st® Browser- It has it’s own web-browser, I am actually using it while writing this entry on my blog. NO traces of your online history, your bookmarks are always with you.

Our home desktop has been <del datetime="2009-05-08T10:36:32+00:00">upgraded</del> replaced from the ancient pentium3 processor to an Intel® Core™2 Duo processor. We’ve already configured everything before I went for my hospital duty this afternoon and when I went home this evening I immediately tested it until now (01:30). My big bro bought the CPU with his best bud yesterday evening but we haven’t had time to fix everything yet.

It’s so cool. haha… I’ve been time lag since my first hold of our P3 processor. Now I can use our home desktop to edit videos through Adobe Premiere and MS Movie Maker, or maybe play SecondLife at home and even faster loading of Adobe Photoshop or Flash without having the computer frozen.

Fast, fast, fast…means increased productivity ergo, profitability!

I’ve read skeptical comments regarding Global Warming before. Some says, the idea was just a conspiracy of scientists just to instill fear. Another comment condemns the idea of the greenhouse gases. But wouldn’t you believe in the air you breath if you haven’t even seen it ever in your life?

It would always be difficult to believe in things you haven’t even seen ever before in your life. Unfortunately, we only get to believe too late, when we cannot do anymore to reverse or reduce the occurrence of the problem.

Global warming already started to manifest. Greenhouse effect isn’t perceived negatively during its first discovery. It was thought that without it, there would be no life on earth. But during industrialization, the greenhouse gases started to increase due to increase emission, until today. This increase, unfortunately did not resulted to better life on earth but it just elevated the temperature of the planet. This sudden change triggered other factors like climate change. Climate change is the first sign according to experts. The recent ideas regarding Global Warming isn’t just a prediction, different collaborative studies proved it’s real.

Extreme weather is becoming more intense but less predictable. In the Philippines, April is still a summertime. But just yesterday, streets of Manila was flooded due to almost an entire day of raining but there were no reported typhoons from the Weather Department. In Espanya Boulevard near University of Santo Tomas area, the flood reached knee-level. Students, office workers and passersby were stranded, while traffic jams because of inaccessible streets.
